Sun. Feb. 21th 12-2pm Raising Urban Chickens- at Other Avenues Health Food Co-op
-Come learn about the practical and beneficial aspects of urban animal husbandry for chickens including local ordinances, coop and run design considerations, and how to raise healthy hens for ‘city’ fresh eggs and super fertilizer for your organic garden.
-Whether you’re just curious, or you’re ready for your first cluckers this season, we’ll cover everything you need to know to get started as well as the joys and challenges of raising urban chickens!
-Everyone who attends will receive a coupon for free chicks at Half Moon Bay Feed and Fuel

Sat. Feb. 27th 11-5pm Bakers Alley- Build an Earth Oven
-Bakers Alley is a monthly event that brings together community, local food, skill sharing, and more. We will be building an Earth Oven (to bake together in the future) at our new home on the field of the Glen Canyon Schools (School of the Arts/Academy of Art and Science)
-Come out and learn how to design and build your own earth oven and join in the ancient tradition of building with earth and help mix up some sand, clay and straw, be prepared to get a little dirty!
-Everyone is welcome, especially kids, and it’s potluck so bring a little something to share
Location: Sports Field at the Glen Canyon Schools – 555 Portola St, San Francisco. Parking is available via O’shaughnessy Blvd @ Portola. Close to 36, 44, 48, and 52 Muni lines.
From the parking area on O’shaughnessy, proceed down the hill towards the football field. We’ll be behind the bleachers with plants and building materials. See ya there!

Sat. Jan. 16th 11-4pm Cob Bench Building at Double Rock Community Garden
-come out to join in the ancient tradition of building with earth and help mix up some sand, clay and straw to put the final layer of cob on the bench, be prepared to get a little dirty!
-everyone is welcome, especially kids, and it’s potluck so bring a little something to share
Location: Double Rock Community Garden-Alice Griffiths Housing Development (Fitzgerald @ Griffith).
Take Fitzgerald east off third St. and continue through the gate into the complex and down the road until it turns left. Proceed past the small concrete building with the new mural on your right side and the garden is on your right. See ya there!

-want to learn about cob building? Come out and help continue to build the cob bench and learn about natural building techniques, be prepared to get a little dirty.
-everyone welcome and remember, kids love cob!
-potluck so bring a wholesome little something to share, some refreshments provided

Oct. 24th 12:00-4:00pm Double Rock Garden Earth oven Plaster and Cob Bench Building Workday
-Come help put the finish plaster and mosaic on the earth oven
-we’ll aslo be adding more to the cob bench if there are enough hands (hint, hint)

Sep. 26th-saturday 11am-5pm: Bakers Alley at Double Rock Community Garden-Acorn as Food Workshop:
– Come learn about how to harvest, prepare, and enjoy the nutritious and delicious acorn. We’ll have a sample of different, local acorn dishes included acorns from Coast Live Oaks, Black Oaks, and Tanbark Oaks. As well as let you prepare your own by learning how to leach the tannins out.
-Join us for the first fire of our new Earth Oven at the Double Rock Community Garden.

-part of the monthly discussion series on the American food system brought to us by Civil Eats
-features a round table discussion on local homesteading happening. Guests include Kevin Bayuk, board member of the Urban Alliance for Sustainability, Heidi Kooy who started the Itty Bitty City Farm and ECOSF’s own Davin Wentworth Thrasher
-$10 suggested donation but nobody turned away for lack of funds
