While some of our work is supported by memberships and our design and build consultation services, and we are cultivating sustainable revenue streams in the form of an urban homestead supply store we currently depend on the support of local community members and businesses.
ECOSF relies on the help of community members and partners to support our ongoing work in San Francisco. Our most recent project, the School Farm at the Academy of Arts and Sciences and the School of the Arts, is our new home base and an ongoing integrated curriculum program that provides experiential learning opportunities for attending students. This program is currently supported by the volunteer work of ECOSF staff and would be better equipped and effective with your contribution.
Some of the projects we are hoping to fund this year include:
10,000 gal Rainwater Harvesting System ($10,000)
This rainwater harvesting system will gravity feed water to irrigate the crops on our farm during the dry season on the farm and reduce summer fresh water consumption while reducing storm water flows into San Francisco’s over burdened sewer system. This project has been designed and approved and is ready to be procured with your support.
Bay Area Specific Native Plant Propagation Nursery ($5,000)
We would like to set up a native plant nursery that carries selections of plants found in and around the San Francisco Bay Area only, to be used for habitat restoration projects and biodiversity gardens in schools and backyards in San Francisco. This project is organized and able to partner with other organizations in San Francisco for support and seed stock and needs capital funding for an automated greenhouse and shade structure.
Outdoor Strawbale Classroom ($25,000)
This open walled outdoor gathering space supported by timber framed, strawbale walls is the first of its kind in San Francisco and a demonstration and exploration of the benefits and practical use of natural building materials in modern construction. This project is in the early phase of designing and can benefit from your support for conducting a feasibility study and acquiring permits and building plans.
