Title: ECOSF's Bakers Alley - Lotions, Potions, Balms, Salves, & Toothpaste
When: 26.05.2013 11:00 - 17:00
Description: Tired of spending oodles of moolah on commercial lotions, moisturizers, and creams that have dozens of ingredients - many of which might be hard to pronounce? How did our great-grandparents keep their hands and skin soft, supple, and healthy while working the land? Come to this special Bakers Alley and learn how to make your own personal care lotions, potions, balms, and salves to heal, soothe, & nurture your skin, as well as how to make a simple toothpaste all of which have less than 5 ingredients from a local health food store and are scented - if you'd like - with only essential oils of your choosing. And you get to reduce contributing to excessive petroleum based packing!

Bakers Alley is also a potluck so bring a dish or dough to bake or share, toppings for pizza, and if you got, em' your own utensils to keep this a zero waste event.

Activities:

11am - Fire up oven, morning refreshments courtesy of Arizmendi Bakery, and general farm work prepping for an afternoon planting of wildlife attracting native plants
12pm - We'll show you how to make lotions to moisturize your skin, how to blend oils for massage and skin healing, balms and salves for weary hands for the gardener, chef, or general palm protection.
1pm – Break for oven fired pizza - bring your own toppings to share!
2pm – Brush thy teeth with less than 5 ingredients that your children (if you have them) can spell! Bring a toothbrush and try out several we have on hand!

Late Afternoon-more work and hangin out, conversatin, eatin and bein merry

As always, the ovens will be blazing and we’ll provide the dough so bring some pizza toppings, or some other local, seasonal fare to share and compare at our ultra-local potluck.

Also check out the farm and see appropriate technology demos like solar ovens and dehydrators (if it’s sunny), rocket stove, compost toilet, pedal power, earthen structures and of course the cob oven

Bring your own utensils if you got em, and musical instruments, parlor tricks and special talents are always welcome too
